The long weekend of the Day of the Spanish Constitution is a perfect opportunity to make a short trip to Barcelona in December. These free days before Christmas provide the opportunity to enjoy a few days off in the Mediterranean, which will help you recharge your batteries for a last push before the Christmas celebrations.

Besides the many places and attractions that the city already has, this year you have a good number of plans to do in Barcelona during the long weekend of December, which will make your holidays very special.

Elton John fans have an appointment in Barcelona the following 6th of December, where the famous singer will perform at the Palau Sant Jordi. It will be one of three popular solo concerts that he will play this year in Spain, along with Madrid and Barakaldo. So, if you like Elton John you can not miss this event.

Another traditional appointment in Barcelona during Christmas is the World Press Photo exhibition, which will present to the public the 130 winning photographs of this prestigious international photojournalism award. The Photographic Social Vision Foundation is responsible for organizing this exhibition, which will be installed at the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) from the 6th to 8th of December.

Moreover, with Christmas just around the corner, every year in Barcelona several activities are organized to mark this time of year, as they are a must whether you live in the city or if you are just visiting.

The Christmas Market in Santa Llucia is one of the most traditional plans at this time of year. It is set up on Nova Square, next to the Cathedral of Barcelona, in the Gothic Quarter. Here, you will find all kinds of figures for nativity scenes, Christmas trees, Christmas decorations, sweets and crafts. You cannot miss it!

It is also traditional to go and see the manger in Sant Jaume Square where there is a representation of the birth of Jesus and the adoration of the shepherds and the Wise Men. The scenarios and figures of this nativity scene are changed every year and it is worth going over to see it and enjoy this temporary work of art.

The large ice rink placed in Plaza Catalunya has also become one of the major attractions in Barcelona during this season. So, if you feel like a different plan and have a fun time, you must stop by to ice skate. One tip, do not forget your gloves.

And, of course, you have to go for a walk in Barcelona. During this time of year, the capital of Cataluña is already decorated with typical Christmas lighting, bringing so much warmth to the streets of the city. This is the reason why we recommend a stroll through its streets and enjoy the lights, decorations and the lively atmosphere of Barcelona.
