That autumn is the most romantic season of the year is something that we in the Petit Palace have always known. It’s certainly true: there’s nothing like seeing the first fall of snow whilst snuggling in front of the fireplace or chatting with a soothing hot chocolate. But make no mistake: November is also a perfect month for enjoying nature in its purest state since although it is cold, temperatures in places like Madrid are still bearable.

Today we are going to the capital to enjoy a walk in El Capricho Park, one of the most romantic spots in Madrid and a real green lung in which to recharge the batteries and whisper the occasional romantic phrase or two. Here is why you shouldn’t miss it on your next trip:

A place full of history

With a history dating back to the late eighteenth century (a golden age for the city of Madrid), El Capricho Park is located in the Alameda de Osuna, in the north of Madrid and about 20 minutes by car from the Hotel ICON Casona 1900.

A place full of charm and measuring 15 hectares, it was built by order of the Duchess of Osuna with the clear goal of having a very stylish park set amongst nature in its most original state.

Dozens of spots with many different styles

There are a lot of Madrid locals who would say that this part of Madrid is one of the most beautiful in the city and you can understand why. Within El Capricho Park there are various unique places in which different artistic styles are mixed. Of course, its worldwide popularity stems from the fact that it is, in every sense, the only truly romantic park in the Madrid area.

Some of the park’s highlights are its beautiful labyrinth of shrubs, the famous fountain of the Dolphins and the Frogs, the pond (with its water lilies and its fairytale style), the emperors’ square and – of course – the palace which is situated in the park. You will find all this less than half an hour away by car from your Petit Palace Alcalá hotel.

Capricho afternoons

In the visit you can not only enjoy its romantic architecture, its hedges, its ponds and its streams but you can also see concerts, plays and other art exhibitions in the so-called ‘Tardes de Capricho’ (Capricho afternoons).

They take place on Saturdays and Sundays in Spring, Summer and Autumn, so this November you have no reason to miss it; especially, if you are going to spend a relaxing weekend in one of our hotels, such as the Petit Palace Triball.
