New Year has just begun and with it comes all those good intentions that we have been promising to fulfill since the end of last summer. For a lot of people New Year is simply that, a mere change of date but for others it is the perfect time to begin the next twelve months with an extra dose of positive energy.
And what better way to be filled with positive energy than with a lightning trip to a different part of our country? At Petit Palace we want to start the year in a big way and that is why we suggest something wintery, unique and very sporty in Malaga. How about a Nordic Walking trip through the Sierra de las Nieves?
Located a little over an hour away if you take the location of the Petit Palace Plaza Málaga as a starting point, Sierra de las Nieves is a true gem in the South of our country. Located to the West of Malaga province and with a height reaching two thousand meters, this mountain range, which has been designated a Biosphere Reserve, is one of those locations where the practice of Nordic Walking becomes a true experience.
If you have chosen Petit Palace Plaza Málaga to spend a few days off this January don’t forget to treat yourself to this sport’s activity as it is one of the most popular in the whole region. Though to get there you’ll need to hire a car or research the province’s train and bus schedules.
Since it is steep and you have a whole day of walking ahead of you, there is nothing better than to start the day with a Petit Palace Plaza Málaga hotel breakfast. With a full stomach, we need to prepare our Nordic Walking equipment and set off for the municipalities of Ronda, Tolox, Istán or Monda (among others, since the sierra skims a lot of villages in Málaga).
Famous for having been for many years something like a natural refrigerator for the inhabitants of the area, the Sierra de las Nieves is in great demand for hikers, for the more experienced and also for Nordic Walking fans since it not only covers a lot of ground (with more than twenty thousand hectares) but the sierra also presents you with a spectacular view full of ravines and cliffs.
Although you will have more than twenty trails to choose from, our recommendation is for you to opt for the best-known track, the one that starts in Ronda and continues through San Pedro de Alcántara until you reach the beautiful Los Quejigales area.
