It doesn’t matter from where we are or where we live, we all suffer the same when the hottest months of the summer season arrive: we have little appetite, are very thirsty and want to eat cool and light foods, (light as in reduced calories or a light texture). Although in the north of the country they prefer grilled meats for the family barbecues, it is true that in the south the diet transforms when summer arrives. A diet that includes lots of gazpacho (cold vegetable soup) and a great, cool salmorejo. Delicious, delicious and very healthy.
Although the people from Cordoba are those who know how to make an authentic salmorejo (the one that should have the label Designation in Origin), it is also true that capitals such as Malaga or Seville know how to add a special touch to the recipe to produce a dish worthy of respect and dignity. The result? A community which enjoys the same recipe with a different spirit but with an identical flavour.
The salmorejo route in Seville
To go to Seville and not enjoy a salmorejo is almost a sacrilege and the local recipe is one of those which pass from mother to daughter and are always delicious. Near to our hotels Petit Palace Santa Cruz and Hotel Petit Palace Marques Santa Ana you can find gastronomic temples such as Los Coloniales Tavern or the Bar Alfalfa, a very basic place (for many, too basic) where to enjoy a delicious salmorejo is an authentic luxury.
Do you prefer to leave the city centre so that you can mix with the locals and get away from the touristic bustle? The best decision is to aim for the Eduardo Dato Avenue (which is next to the Park La Buharia) to enjoy a salmorejo in places such as La Espumosa or La Sureña.
The salmorejo route in Malaga
However, if your summer route takes you along the shores of the Mediterranean in Andalusia, nothing better than to try an excellent salmorejo surrounded by Malaga’s sea breezes. The best place to enjoy it? In the historic centre of the city, at your operational base at the hotel Petit Palace Plaza Málaga.
Very near to Larios Street and a few metres from the capital, there are many bars and taverns that exhibit on their menus and notice boards salmorejo, highlighted as recently elaborated and part of their summer menu of the day. If you want to give your dish a special touch, ask for a local olive oil so that you can add a couple of drops before you try it.
