Work generates a great amount of tension we normally bring home with us. One of the best ways to avoid it is to have a drink after a work day and share a relaxing moment with friends and workmates. The afterwork drink is a growing tendency in Spain, and in the capital you can find a wide range of establishments that have adapted to this new concept of bar.

These establishments are aware of the great potential of this type of client, who comes to have a drink late in the afternoon, after work, to get away from it all and enjoy a relaxing atmosphere with workmates and friends.

The afterwork bars stand out for having a well-cared decoration of sophisticated atmospheres, although we find bars with other tendencies.

In Madrid we find different afterwork areas, normally located in the business districts, where most of these clients work. A good example is the Salamanca neighbourhood, one of the afterwork areas in Madrid par excellence. There you will find a wide range of chic and select afterwork bars. The O’Clock (Juan Bravo Street, 25) is one of them, a British bar which has become very popular and where you can enjoy a wide range of cocktails an gin tonics.

The Uno de Molina (María de Molina Street, 1) is another of the bars specialised in this type of clients. There we can find people in suits enjoying a drink in a low table, on the sofas or at the bar. The Bristol Bar (Almirante Street, 20) is an English contemporary bar also visited by people after work, as well as the Escola Kitchen Bar (Diego de León Street, 3), of New York inspiration.

The Dry Cosmpolitan Bar by Javier de las Muelas is a recommendable afterwork bar located in the Gran Melià Fénix Hotel (Hermosilla Street, 2). This bar is a member of a really well known chain of establishments of the cocktail world. The Boggo bar is also worth visiting (Velazquez Street), where you will find a well-cared design based in the 50s.

The Malasaña neighbourhood is also a fabulous area for having an afterwork drink. There we find La T bar (Molino de Viento Street, 4), a two-storey bar in whose basement we find a pleasant lounge. We also recommend you visit the Olé Lola (San Mateo Street, 28) and the Corazón Bar (Valverde Street, 44), located between Chueca and Malasaña.

You can also visit the area of Alonso Martinez after work. There you will find the famous Whitby (Almagro Street, 2), a restaurant recognised for its industrial decoration. Le Cabrera (Bárbara de Braganza Street, 2) is also a really popular establishment, a gastro cocktail bar with a really varied list of cocktails. The Dray Martina (Argensola Street, 7) is another of the reference afterwork bars of the area, where you will enjoy a pleasant atmosphere thanks to a vintage decoration.

If you travel to Madrid for business, we recommend you stay in some of the Petit Palace Hotels in Madrid, so that you enjoy a pleasant stay in the capital.
