When discussing the city of Seville, normally people talk about the atmosphere, the tapas, the wonderful smell of orange blossom, the magic and the unique extras (the fans, flamenco dresses and the singular character). Few or even very few people talk about Seville as a destination to practice water sports but yes, you can. Also, did you know that Marina Alabau, gold in London 2012 in windsurf, was born in Seville and started her professional career there?
Together with Alabau many others have used the Guadalquivir as their base to practice their favourite aquatic sports such as windsurf, kayak, water ski or canoeing, our recommendations to enhance your enjoyment during your stay in Seville.
At about twenty minutes from our hotels in the neighbourhood of Santa Cruz – Petit Palace Santa Cruz and Petit Palace Marques de Santa Ana - across the river, you arrive at the Seville Nautical Club, a place similar to the coast of Cadiz and where it is possible to practice such diverse sports as sailing, rowing and also swimming (this takes place in a facility situated at the club).
We recommend that you chose a session of canoeing because it is an activity which is free for members of the club and has a cost of only 20€ for external visitors. The experience is really worthwhile.
It is true that the waters of the Guadalquivir are not the best to enjoy a swim nor are they ideal for other types of more active water sports (such as parasailing). However, the waters of the river during the canoeing sessions also include unique spectacular views.
So what better way to enjoy the vision of both banks of Seville from the heart of the Guadalquivir?
We are talking about a route in canoe of about 5 or 6 kilometres where you can contemplate some of the most authentic architectural jewels of the city such as the Golden Tower, Maestranza square, the beautiful Triana Bridge, the small coloured houses in Betis street or the bridges of Barquets and Alamillo.
After a few hours of physical exercise in the waters of the Guadalquivir, you will not feel like walking so nothing better than to return to the hotel by bicycle using the free bicycle service at the disposition of the clients staying at the hotel Petit Palace Marques de Santa Ana.
